Sherwood Forest is a unique and enchanting Audubon Community near Brevard, North Carolina. As part of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, our 1,000-acre mountain development are protected woodlands with more than 20 miles of hiking trails, revealing meandering streams and sparkling waterfalls as well as gorgeous mountain views. In the midst of this forest are over 220 homes, both individual homes on approximately one-acre lots to cluster homes and condominiums, all of which are nestled in the woods.
Sherwood attracts those who are charmed by forest living and who choose to live in harmony with nature, both with native plants and with animals that also thrive here. Residents enjoy walking, hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing and fishing, as well as listening to stimulating naturalists who either live in, or frequent Sherwood Forest. We have wildlife walks throughout the different seasons as well as a lecture series through community wide programs.
Sherwood Forest has 5 lakes, with community boats on each lake for member’s use, along with a state-of-the-art heated junior Olympic swimming pool. In addition, we have two tennis courts, a basketball court, and an award winning par three golf course where llamas occasionally caddy. We also have a community garden where members enjoy organic gardening, and a historic barn for community-wide events.
There are many opportunities for getting to know your neighbors, from volunteering on committees which run and maintain Sherwood Forest, to wildlife walks and lectures, to gardening at the community garden, to Wednesday evening gatherings at the pool during the summer, to soup suppers at the Centre during the winter, and old fashioned holiday picnics at the Barn.
